Portugal’s hotels and guest accommodation kept growing in the second quarter
INE counted 9.4 million guests and 23.3 million overnight stays in the second quarter of 2026. Pay in accommodation also rose year on year. For hotel employers, it is a useful snapshot of a busy sector, not a forecast for any one property.

INE put second-quarter unemployment at 5.3%, while employment increased from both the previous quarter and a year earlier. It is a broad labour-market signal, not a measure of how easy a specific vacancy will be to fill.

Eurostat reported that Portugal’s job-vacancy rate was higher in the first quarter of 2026 than a year earlier, while most EU countries recorded a fall. The figure does not identify individual shortage occupations, but it gives employers useful context.
